Frequently
Asked Questions
The official meeting point is the Big Skies secure car park in Manguzi. You are welcome to arrive between 11h00 and 14h00. You'll be transferred via open safari vehicle to the Lake Sibayi Camp. From Durban, the drive is approximately 5 hours — we recommend leaving between 06h00 and 09h00.
We don't run our own shuttles, but we recommend trusted operators. From King Shaka International, the drive is approximately 4.5 hours. Contact Anthony Cox (NorthCoastRunner) on 087 808 9095 or bookings@northcoastrunner.co.za. Alternatively, Excellent Tours on 082 555 1234.
A moderate level of fitness is required. We cover 10–17 km per day on coastal forest trails, beaches, and soft sand. The route is not technical, though soft sand can be tiring. Every day can be shortened with vehicle support to suit your fitness level.
Turtle Season (Nov–Mar): Our peak season. Hotter, but offers the incredible opportunity to witness Loggerhead and Leatherback turtles nesting or hatching.
Cooler Months (April–Oct): Milder temperatures, crystal clear days and excellent birding opportunities.
We provide a detailed packing list upon booking. The golden rule is Travel Light — no heavy hiking gear required. Essential items: sun cream, a good hat, comfortable trail runners, mosquito and tick repellent, and a swimming costume.
We cater for most dietary needs. Please list any allergies or specific requirements on your Client Information Form when booking so our kitchen team can prepare accordingly.
If flying in on the day, your flight should land no later than 08h30 at King Shaka — ideally fly in the day before for a relaxed start. Your experience concludes at approximately 15h00 on day 5. We advise booking return flights for the following morning.
Reception can be patchy along the coast and in the forests — we recommend viewing this as a welcome digital detox. There is usually a signal at the main lodge.
While optional, we highly recommend comprehensive cover. For expert advice and a quote, contact our Bryte agent Margie Manser on 071 461 8181.
Absolutely. Consider spending an extra night at Gugs Lodge or Sibayi Lakeside Camp. Chat with our partner, Singletrack Adventures, about add-on activities including Tembe Elephant Park game drives or scuba diving excursions.
