Venture on a remarkable boat trip across the three majestic Kosi Lakes. The journey begins with an hour-long transfer to the boat launch site at the Kosi Bay Ezemvelo Rangers site and takes you to the world’s oldest fish traps. Immerse yourself in the rich history and impressive ingenuity that these traps represent. Guided by our experienced boat captain, you’ll explore the lakes and their unique inhabitants, including hippos, kingfish shoals, and flamingoes. The trip isn’t complete without a live demonstration of how these traditional fish traps function, followed by a lakeside lunch featuring freshly grilled fish. This engaging experience gives you a taste of an ancient business, social, and cultural tradition. Please note that the full-day excursion includes a one-hour drive from the camp each way, with a return time after lunch. Unfavourable weather conditions like high winds may affect the scheduling of this trip.

Following a brief 20-minute walk to the river, you’ll receive an orientation, choose your paddling partner, and prepare for an enchanting aquatic adventure.
Settle into your kayak and let the gentle current guide you along the Siyadla. Be on the lookout for an array of magnificent birdlife, including the rare and localised palm nut vulture, nesting amidst the towering raffia palms lining the riverbank. Enjoy the tranquility of the journey, usually lasting around an hour and a half, amidst this serene backdrop of nature.

Embark on a journey to the Black Rock, a captivating locale renowned as one of the region’s most stunning landscapes. The route takes you along the coastal road, past breathtaking cycads, ancient plants that hint at prehistoric times.
On arrival at Black Rock, descend through a forest filled with striking strelitzia trees, leading to a breathtakingly beautiful Mediterranean-style beach. Here, the wide bay creates a gentle wave action, lapping at the shoreline of the warm Indian Ocean, a true sensory delight for anyone privileged enough to swim there.
The backdrop of a sea of strelitzias against a grand black rock, housing its unique micro-biome, completes this unforgettable scene. Savour a full day at this remote beach, a hidden gem we consider the finest in South Africa.
